Auschwitz Visit

On Wednesday, 19th February, a group of year 12 students took part in a deeply moving visit to Auschwitz with the Holocaust Educational Trust. This experience provided a powerful insight into the horrors of the Holocaust and its ongoing significance today.

During their visit, they walked through Auschwitz I, passing under the infamous "Arbeit Macht Frei" gate and viewing harrowing displays of victims’ belongings. At Auschwitz-Birkenau, they stood on the railway tracks where so many were transported to their deaths and saw the remains of the gas chambers. A solemn memorial ceremony allowed them to reflect on the immense loss of life.

More than just a history lesson, the visit was a stark reminder of the dangers of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination—issues that still persist today. Seeing the site first-hand reinforced the importance of remembrance and education in ensuring such atrocities are never repeated. The students returned determined to share what they had learned, keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive for future generations.

This was an incredible experience and something I would recommend everyone does at least once in their lifetime - Ben, year 12
