Bassaleg School Shine Again in Cyber Security Competition Final

After making it to the final round of the Cyber Security Competition at the National Cyber Security Academy at the USW campus in Newport, our teams from Years 10 and 11 continued to impress. Though there was no overall winner for the competition, the Year 11 team of Alfie Barlow and Rhys Rowbotham made a standout performance and collected prizes in four out of ten categories. They won the morning competition by Palo Alto, a global leader in Cyber Security, and were awarded special recognition prizes for their enthusiasm and contributions throughout the day.

The competition involved over 1,360 students aged 14 - 18, in over 100 schools and colleges across Wales and the South West. Both teams showcased not only excellent cyber skills, but exceptional team work and determination, showcasing Bassaleg School's continued commitment to supporting pathways in cyber and digital skills. The competition was supported by a large number of industry experts including Palo Alto Networks, CyberWomen Groups, Cyber First Wales, The University of South Wales, The University of the West of England, and Cardiff University. These organisations challenged students to solve complex cybersecurity problems and test their digital problem-solving abilities, of which our teams thoroughly impressed at.

Congratulations to our cyber security teams for their exceptional achievement and for representing our school with such distinction!
