On Tuesday 26th November, our Eco Council invited Sarah Lee from Newport Council to continue their ongoing work towards the Air Quality Project. During Sarah Lee’s visit, she and the council members discussed the issue of air pollution surrounding our school site and reviewed the tubes inserted to monitor the school’s air quality. She also went on to consider the pollution and traffic survey data from June of this year. Fortunately, the data has shown that air pollution levels are much lower than what is deemed dangerous by the Welsh Government, however we will continue to monitor this.
Furthermore, the Eco Council gave some suggestions such as for the school to encourage more pupils to walk or cycle to school, in order to prevent excessive air pollution. Our Eco Council also found that parents leaving their engines on whilst waiting for pupils outside the school is contributing to the pollution level and advised engines are turned off while waiting. Moreover, they felt it would be beneficial for our younger Eco Council members to run the poster campaign in the spring. The aim of which is to inform and educate our pupils on how they can take an active approach in lowering the levels of air pollution.
They are looking forward to working with Sarah again in the near future!
