Glan Llyn 2025

by Mrs Sansom

Four hours on a bus, 3 degrees celsius, lots of sweets and even more activities! On the 7th of February 2025, Year 9 spent the weekend in Bala, North Wales climbing walls, shooting arrows, creating rafts and building fires.

We first arrived in Bala on Friday evening and year 9 quickly got ready for their first activities; swimming and archery. Harri showed us all his archery skills and gave us all tips; da iawn to Ms Dale for being the staff champion! A bit of down time needed and a good night’s sleep ready for a full day of Saturday activities!

Saturday started with a lovely cooked breakfast to fill us all up ready for a very busy day ahead! The morning began with jumpers, coats, woolly hats and fluffy socks and lots of coffee for the staff! The groups split into two and alternated between the climbing wall and the high ropes. As Maisie put it so beautifully, “I literally jumped off a building guys!”.

Lunch time soon came around and time to warm up before our next activities of canoeing and raft building. I can still hear Megan’s group shouting “ROW…ROW…ROW…ROW” from a distance; what lovely teamwork! Some rafts were sturdier than others shall we say… Unfortunately, despite Lucas’ attempts at knot tying, remember we need the knot to actually tie around something before we knot it! The sausage roll and hot chocolate was certainly needed after the day year 9 had!

Saturday evening, and time for another round of archery and swimming. But who could forget the disco?! The Glan Llyn disco is a right of passage and what a wonderful bunch of dancers you were! Mrs Parfitt absolutely loved leading the moves and I’m thinking Mrs Parfitt will be auditioning for the next Gym and Dance display…!

Sunday morning was greeted with sleepy faces, tired bodies but such enthusiastic smiles. Another lovely pancake breakfast from the staff at Glan Llyn ready for our morning of orienteering, shelter making and building fires. Again, some fires were better than others… but we all got there in the end with roasted marshmallows. What more could you ask for on a cold Sunday morning in Bala?

And just like that, the weekend was over, the bags were packed, sleeping bags were all tucked away and we were back on the bus. What a fantastic weekend with the most wonderful group of pupils!
